TEKNAF, Cox’s Bazar: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB)
personnel on Thursday have started drives in different villages of the
upazila of Cox’s Bazar to trace Rohingyas, who randomly intruding into
Bangladesh territory.
Earlier in the morning, BGB pushed some 25 Rohingyas back to their country as they tried to intrude into our territory around 7am.
Besides, several BGB teams conducted drives at Mistiripara and Jaliapara under Shabrang union of Shah Pori Island on Wednesday night. But they couldn’t trace any Rohingya here.
Teknaf BGB-42 Battalion Operation Officer Commander H Kamrul Hassan told banglanews, “We are conducting the drives the villages whether any Rohingya taken shelter in any house or hidden in the area.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Coast Guard admitted that asylum seeker Rohingyas are randomly intruding into Bangladesh territory.
Operation Officer of Teknaf-42 BGB Battalion H Kamrul Hasan told banglanews, “We are struggling to prevent intruding although deployed additional force as it is easier to enter here in many ways.”
BGB and upazila administration source said some 820 BGB men and 200 coast guards are usually deployed in 150 kilometer border with Myanmar and currently additional 120 BGB men and 100 coast guards were deployed.
Earlier in a few days, many people were killed in incidents of violence in western Myanmar, where police opened fire and the authorities declared a curfew to tackle the escalating unrest, officials said.
Myanmar’s State television announced late Friday a night-time curfew in the unrest-hit areas, home to large numbers of Rohingya, a Muslim group described by the United Nations as one of the world’s most persecuted minorities.
The UN evacuated its officials from the state of the country.
